Berlin Christmas markets 2026: 14 dated, 10 free
The first opens 31 October in Lichtenberg; six open on 23 November. Gendarmenmarkt costs €2. Inside: who shuts on 22 November. Checked October 2026.
Berlin Christmas markets open in waves in 2026: Lichtenberg on 31 October, the RAW-Gelände on 12 November, and most of the big central ones on Monday 23 November. Ten of the 14 with dates are free; Gendarmenmarkt charges €2.
The catch is the Sunday before that Monday. On 22 November, Totensonntag, four of the six markets with confirmed dates running by then close for the day — the table shows which, the one that stays open and the one that has not said.

Four of the six markets open by 22 November close that day
Sunday 22 November 2026 is Totensonntag, the Protestant day of remembrance for the dead and the last Sunday before Advent. Christmas Avenue, the RAW-Gelände market and the Humboldt Forum Wintermarkt publish a closure for exactly that date, and so does the Lichtenberger Winterzeit according to berlin.de and the hours box on its own site. Christmas Garden stays open; its closed days that week are 23 and 24 November. The Gedächtniskirche market opens on 13 November according to both berlin.de and its operator, so it is trading by then, but neither has published hours or closed days.
It also explains why so much opens on Monday 23 November: Gendarmenmarkt, the Rotes Rathaus, Potsdamer Platz, Spandau, Schloss Charlottenburg and Lucia. Mitte’s 2026–2028 call for operators at Alexanderplatz and Potsdamer Platz sets the first trading day as the first Monday after Totensonntag and the last no later than 26 December — exactly the window Potsdamer Platz now lists.

Going with someone
A Christmas market is one of the few winter outings that gets better with a second person. One of you queues for Glühwein while the other finds the food stall, you split two dishes instead of committing to one, and the cold matters less when you are talking.

Gendarmenmarkt: €2, or free on weekday lunchtimes
The WeihnachtsZauber runs 23 November to 31 December 2026, Sunday to Thursday 11:00–22:00 and Friday to Saturday 11:00–23:00; on 24 December it closes at 18:00. The operator has not published its 31 December hours. Entry is €2, free Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 14:00 except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December, and free for children under 12. U2 Hausvogteiplatz or U6 Stadtmitte.
We would go at 13:00 on a weekday: free, light, and before the after-work crowd.
The four that charge, priced for two
Four of the 14 markets with dates charge entry.
- Gendarmenmarkt: €4 for two, or €0 on a weekday before 14:00.
- RAW-Gelände, Historische Weihnacht: €6 for two from Tuesday to Friday, €8 at weekends, free on Mondays. S+U Warschauer Straße.
- Domäne Dahlem: €9 for two, with museum entry included; reduced tickets are €2. Advent weekends only, 11:00–19:00. U3 Dahlem-Dorf.
- Christmas Garden: from €33.80 for two online, €59.80 at the box office. A ticketed light trail rather than a classic market. Closed 23, 24 and 30 November, 7, 24 and 31 December and 4 and 5 January. S1 Botanischer Garten.

The free ones worth the trip
Rotes Rathaus. The Berliner Weihnachtszeit by the Neptunbrunnen runs 23 November to 3 January, free, Monday to Friday 12:00–22:00 and weekends 11:00–22:00, closed 24 and 31 December, and open until 20:00 on 3 January. Humboldt Forum. The Wintermarkt runs 18 November to 3 January, daily 11:00–22:00, free, closed 22 November and 24 December. U5 Museumsinsel.
Lucia, KulturBrauerei. 23 November to 22 December, free, weekdays 15:00–22:00 and weekends 13:00–22:00, in brick courtyards with a chain carousel. U2 Eberswalder Straße. Our pick for a weeknight.
Schloss Charlottenburg. 23 November to 27 December, free, Monday to Thursday 13:00–22:00 and Friday to Sunday 12:00–22:00, closed 24 December.
Spandauer Altstadt. 23 November to 22 December, free, Sunday to Thursday 11:00–20:00 and Friday to Saturday 11:00–22:00. U7 Altstadt Spandau.
Christmas Avenue. At Nollendorfplatz, now in front of the Metropol. The LGBTQIA* Winterdays run from 4 November and Christmas Avenue takes over on 23 November until 23 December; free, 16+ with ID, closed 15 and 22 November.
Sophienstraße. Advent weekends only, Saturday 12:00–20:00 and Sunday 11:00–19:00. The last day is Sunday 20 December.
Still no date: Alexanderplatz and Wintermünze
As of 24 October 2026, neither has a 2026 date on berlin.de or an operator site we could read. Mitte’s rules put any 2026 Alexanderplatz market between 23 November and 26 December at most. Potsdamer Platz now has dates on berlin.de: 23 November to 26 December, daily 11:00–22:00, free.
The Gedächtniskirche market now has a start date both sources agree on: 13 November 2026. berlin.de ends it on 3 January 2027; the showmen’s association that runs it lists “43. Weihnachtsmarkt City” until 1 January 2027. Neither has published hours, and its visitor page still shows 2025. Free, U1 and U9 Kurfürstendamm.
Berlin Christmas markets for two: our call
If you have one evening: Lucia on a weekday, then a walk to the Rotes Rathaus another night for the rink. If you have one lunch break: Gendarmenmarkt before 14:00, free. We would skip the opening weekend at the central markets, and on 22 November we would pick a board game café instead.

The Lichtenberger Winterzeit on Landsberger Allee opens first, on 31 October 2026. Christmas Avenue’s Winterdays start on 4 November, the RAW-Gelände market on 12 November, the Gedächtniskirche market on 13 November, and Christmas Garden and the Humboldt Forum Wintermarkt on 18 November. The biggest wave opens on Monday 23 November: Gendarmenmarkt, the Rotes Rathaus, Potsdamer Platz, Spandau, Schloss Charlottenburg and Lucia.
Are Berlin Christmas markets free?
Mostly. Ten of the 14 markets with 2026 dates are free. Four charge: Gendarmenmarkt €2 (free Monday to Friday 11:00–14:00 except 24, 25, 26 and 31 December, and for children under 12), the RAW-Gelände €3 Tuesday to Friday and €4 at weekends (free on Mondays), Domäne Dahlem €4.50 with museum entry, and Christmas Garden from €16.90 online.
Which Christmas markets are closed on 22 November 2026?
22 November 2026 is Totensonntag. The Lichtenberger Winterzeit, Christmas Avenue, the RAW-Gelände market and the Humboldt Forum Wintermarkt are closed that day. Christmas Garden stays open. The Gedächtniskirche market, open from 13 November, has not published its closed days.
When is the Alexanderplatz Christmas market 2026?
As of 24 October 2026 it has no published 2026 date. Mitte’s rules for the square allow a market from the first Monday after Totensonntag, 23 November, to 26 December at most.
Which Berlin Christmas markets are open after Christmas?
Gendarmenmarkt runs to 31 December. Lichtenberg and Schloss Charlottenburg run to 27 December, Potsdamer Platz to 26 December. The Rotes Rathaus and the Humboldt Forum run to 3 January, and the Rotes Rathaus is closed on 31 December. The Gedächtniskirche market runs to 1 or 3 January, depending on the source. Christmas Garden runs to 10 January.
