Christmas Garden Berlin is an evening light trail through the Botanischer Garten, open 18 November 2026 to 10 January 2027. Two adults pay from €33.80 online and €59.80 at the box office, so the biggest lever is when you book. We would go on a Sunday to Thursday, with the tickets bought weeks ahead.

It is the tenth season, and it is one of the easier plans in Berlin to make with someone you do not know well yet. You walk side by side for about two hours, and the lights give you something to say.

The short version

  • Open 18 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, from 16:20. It is closed on eight named days, including 24 and 31 December.
  • Adult tickets cost €16.90 to €27.90 online, depending on the date and how early you book. At the box office an adult ticket is €29.90.
  • Entry is by a 20-minute time slot printed on your ticket. A sold-out slot is not sold at the box office either.
  • The trail is about 2 km, takes about two hours, and runs in rain and snow with no refund for weather.
  • Our pick for two: a Sunday to Thursday slot, booked early, then a warm drink somewhere nearby.

The organiser sets prices by date and by how early you book. The €26.00 you could save for a pair, €33.80 online against €59.80 at the door, is the number we would plan around. It is our arithmetic from the organiser’s own price list, and it only holds if cheap slots are still left for your date.

What Christmas Garden Berlin actually is

The organiser describes a stroll through the lit botanical garden after dark, with light installations and music. We have not walked this year’s trail, so we are not going to tell you which installation is best. The organiser says the walking path is newly redesigned this season, which is a reason not to rely on last year’s photos.

What the official pages do tell you is useful. It is outdoors, it is evening, and the gardens’ glasshouses are not part of the walk. The organiser recommends warm clothes and sturdy shoes, and dogs are not allowed.

Who it is not for

  • Anyone who wants to decide on the day. Entry is by time slot, and if a slot is sold out online the box office does not sell it either. The FlexTicket is the exception, and it costs more.
  • People who dislike cold evenings. It runs in rain and snow, and the organiser does not refund tickets for bad weather unless there is immediate danger.
  • Dog owners. Dogs are not allowed, even in a bag. Registered service dogs are exempt.
  • Anyone planning to drive. There are no parking spaces near the Botanischer Garten, and the organiser asks you to use public transport.
  • Cash-only people. The box offices at both entrances take cards only.

Going with someone you have just met

We think a walk with a fixed start and a fixed finish is a kind first plan. Nobody has to carry a conversation for two hours, because you are both looking at the same thing. “Which one did you like most?” is an easier question than “So, what do you do?”, and the trail gives you a natural end point.

One person should book both tickets in one order, so you are not comparing slot times by message. Pick one of the two entrances to meet at, and go in inside the 20-minute window printed on your ticket. Once you are in, you are welcome to stay longer than that window. Afterwards, the walk back to the S1 is a good time to decide whether you want a drink. If you are comparing it with the markets, our Christmas markets in Berlin guide covers the free option.

What we would skip

  • The box office, if you can plan. At €29.90 an adult it is €2.00 more than the top online adult price of €27.90, and it only helps if your slot still has tickets.
  • The FlexTicket on a first plan. At €32.90 online it is €5.00 more than the top online adult price of €27.90, and only worth it if you cannot pick a date. Two of you pay €65.80.
  • Friday and Saturday, if cost matters. The organiser says prices follow demand, and the discounted student and senior ticket does not apply from Friday to Sunday.
  • The family tickets for two adults. Family Day and Family tickets need at least one child aged 6 to 14.

Which days to pick

Every day from 18 November to 10 January is open except 23, 24 and 30 November; 7, 24 and 31 December; and 4 and 5 January. In our view a weeknight is the better bet for two adults. The discounted ticket for students and over-65s, €12.90 to €23.90, is valid Monday to Thursday only, not on holidays, and not between 18 December and 2 January. It needs valid ID at the entrance.

Family Days, with a €42.90 ticket for up to five people, fall on 18 November, 25 November, 1 December, 8 December and 6 January. The tenth-anniversary €10.00 ticket, for Monday to Friday slots from 18:30 until 17 December, is listed as sold out. If you are looking at the same weeks for other plans, see Berlin events in December 2026, and for the same evening on ice, ice skating in Berlin.

Tickets

Buy from the organiser’s own shop at christmas-garden.de. Children aged 5 and under are free, children aged 6 to 14 pay from €12.90, and children under 14 may only enter with an adult. A combined Winter Magic ticket with Weihnachten im Tierpark is €49.90 for an adult, not valid from 18 December to 2 January. The organiser’s homepage shows “from €43.90” for it, which is the child price.

Rescheduling costs €5.00 per exchange, and discounted tickets can only move to a Monday to Thursday slot. Ticket prices, hours and closed days can change, so check the shop for your date before you book.
