Cooking classes in Berlin: 7 schools, €89 to €145

Cooking classes in Berlin run €89 to €145 per person for two. Seven schools compared on price, what is included, group size and language — checked August 2026.

Cooking classes in Berlin: six adults chopping vegetables around a steel island in a brick-walled evening cooking class

Across the seven Berlin cooking schools trading today, a class runs €89 to €145 per person when two people buy two seats. The cheaper €65 rate is a private-group price needing at least six. Compared on price, what is included, group size and language.

The short version

  • Two people, walk-in price: €89 to €145 per person across the seven schools trading now. The Koch- und Grillakademie in Biesdorf and Kochwerk in Weißensee start at €89; RunningPapaya in Wilmersdorf is dearest at €125 to €145.
  • The €65 headline is not for couples. Berliner Kochwerkstatt in Schöneberg is the cheapest per head, but its minimum booking is six people and every class runs as a closed private event.
  • Only one school tells you the language of each class. Goldhahn und Sampson lists it per class and currently shows 32 in English against 96 in German. RunningPapaya mentions English only for company bookings. The rest say nothing — an English website is not a promise of an English class.
  • Every school states what is in the price — one hides it. The Koch- und Grillakademie’s course pages say nothing, but its terms and conditions do: training, menu, drinks and recipes, 10 to 20 people, three to five hours. You have to open the AGB to find out what you are buying.
  • Watch the small print. Kochwerk adds a 4% booking fee to every price. Goldhahn und Sampson stops refunding entirely two days out. Two schools publish no class dates at all. And an eighth name, La Cocina, is already selling Berlin classes for a kitchen that does not open until September 2026.

How we checked: every price, duration and group size below was read on the school’s own booking page on 25 August 2026, and only counted if it was visible to a visitor. Aggregator listings were used to find schools, never to price them. Where a school does not state something, this guide says “not published” rather than guessing.

What seven Berlin cooking schools actually cost

Every figure here came off the school’s own page on 25 August 2026. Prices are per person unless the row says otherwise, and they cover cooking classes in Berlin rather than the corporate and team-event versions the same schools also sell.

The €89–€145 in the title is what a standard cooking class costs when two people walk in and buy two seats. Several figures in the table sit outside it, deliberately. Berliner Kochwerkstatt’s €65 and €75 are private-group rates a pair cannot buy at all. Goldhahn und Sampson’s €50 cheese seminar and €85 baking class are seminars and baking, not cooking. Kochwerk’s catalogue spans €25 to €150 around its typical €89 — the €25 is a children’s Christmas-biscuit session. And the Koch- und Grillakademie’s Weber grill courses reach €165. All are real and bookable; they are just not the same product as the column they sit in.

One more, but not yet

La Cocina is coming to Koppenstraße 8 in Friedrichshain and its site already sells Berlin classes at €89 to €169, with sushi at €139 and all drinks, a sparkling-wine reception, a loaned apron and a digital recipe book in the price. It is not in the table because it is not open. The school’s own announcement says the doors open in September 2026, its contact page still lists only Hannover, Hamburg and Bremen, and of the ten Berlin dates on sale every one before September is out of stock. If you are reading this in the autumn, it belongs on your list. Today it is a pre-sale.

What cooking classes in Berlin cost for two people, honestly

This is where most guides on cooking classes in Berlin quietly mislead. The cheapest number on the list belongs to Berliner Kochwerkstatt in Schöneberg: €65 a head for three courses, including a welcome drink, two glasses of wine, the recipes and a loaned apron. It is the best value on the page and you cannot have it. The three-course format is sold “für Gruppen von 6–9 Personen”, and the school states that every event runs “in geschlossener Gesellschaft” — a closed private booking. Two people cannot buy two seats.

Kochwerk in Weißensee has the same problem in a softer form. The listed price is €89, but the minimum class size is eight, so your evening depends on six strangers also booking. It does run a genuine couples format — “Kochkurs Couple Cooking, 99 EUR pro Paar” — which is €102.96 once the school’s 4% booking fee lands, or €51.48 each. Before you get excited: the only date shown for it is 8 March, which has passed. Ask whether it will run again.

Strip out the group-only options and the realistic range for a pair walking in and buying two tickets is €89 to €145 per person, or €178 to €290 for the two of you. The Koch- und Grillakademie in Biesdorf and Kochwerk in Weißensee sit at the bottom, RunningPapaya at the top. If you will settle for baking rather than cooking, Goldhahn und Sampson runs baking classes from €85 and a cheese seminar at €50.

Found a class but nobody to go with? That is the actual blocker for most people, not the €89. The language problem nobody mentions

Cooking classes in Berlin are overwhelmingly sold to a German-speaking audience, and of the seven schools trading here, exactly one tells you what language each class is taught in. Goldhahn und Sampson lists it on the individual class page — the Maki Sushi evening on 17 September 2026 renders “Sprache: Englisch” — and its catalogue filter currently shows 32 classes in English against 96 in German. Its FAQ also explains what the “English-Friendly” tag means: the person leading the course speaks English too, explains where needed, and adjusts to the language level in the room.

The rest publish nothing per class. Several have polished English-language websites, and that is not the same thing — Goldhahn’s own German course page serves the same German text on its English version. RunningPapaya is the only other school to mention English at all, and it is the wrong kind: “All company events in english available” — corporate bookings, not the public class you are looking at.

If your German is not up to following knife technique at speed, email before you pay. This is the single most common way an evening out in Berlin goes wrong for newcomers, and it is the same trap as making friends in Berlin without German: the website is in English, the room is not.

What is in the price, and what is not

With cooking classes in Berlin the headline number matters less than what it covers, and the spread here is wide.

RunningPapaya promises the most of the schools actually open. Two drinks and a loaned apron sit in the base price alongside every ingredient, all the equipment and a digital recipe collection. At €125 to €145 it is also the dearest, so that is the deal rather than a bargain.

Berliner Kochwerkstatt names both recipes and a loaned apron in its base price, alongside a welcome drink and two 0.1 l glasses of wine with the three-course menu. Its bronze, silver and gold drink packages are not surcharges — they are all-in per-person prices that replace the €65: €80, €85 or €90 for three courses, €90, €95 or €100 for four. So the cheapest school in the guide tops out at €100 a head if you take the fullest option.

One school makes you dig for it. The Koch- und Grillakademie’s course pages describe the cooking and the shared eating but say nothing about what the €89 covers. Its terms and conditions do, in a different corner of the site: the price includes the cooking training, the menu, accompanying drinks and the recipes, classes usually run 10 to 20 people, and a course lasts three to five hours. That is a perfectly good offer filed where nobody reads.

Dao Thai sits in the middle and is unusually clear: €119 “inkl. Getränke und Unterlagen” — drinks and written course materials — for a five-course Thai menu over four hours on Kantstraße.

The small print that catches people out

  • Kochwerk adds 4% to everything. Every price on the site carries an asterisk reading “zzgl. Buchungsgebühr 4%”. The €89 class is €92.56.
  • Goldhahn und Sampson’s cancellation ladder is strict and it says so. Full credit only up to 15 days before — the page specifies “not 14!” — then 70% from 14 days, 50% from seven, and from two days out nothing at all: the ticket expires, “No exceptions.” Refunds default to a voucher; taking cash instead costs €5. Tickets are transferable, but the name on them cannot be changed.
  • Two schools publish no dates. Every course at cookingberlin reads “Termine siehe Anfragen/Buchen”. Dao Thai states that detailed dates appear “spätestens vier Wochen vor Kursbeginn” — at most four weeks ahead — so its calendar is empty most of the time and booking runs through an enquiry form with no payment step.
  • Kochwerk’s couples date has passed. The one “Kochkurs Couple Cooking” listing shows “Termin: 08. März” with no year, while its sibling classes carry full 2026 dates. Ask before you plan an evening around it.
  • Minimum group sizes can cancel your evening. Kochwerk needs eight, cookingberlin eight to ten, and RunningPapaya’s terms set a floor of eight. A class that does not fill does not run.
  • Rebooking windows are short. RunningPapaya allows changes up to 48 hours before, and nothing after.
  • Class caps vary within one school. Goldhahn und Sampson’s Maki Sushi evening takes up to 16, but its Pasta Fresca 101 caps at 12. The number is on the individual class page, not the catalogue.

One inconsistency worth knowing: Goldhahn und Sampson’s own FAQ still says “Most classes cost €90 per person” while the live listing charges €105. The booking page is the one that takes your money, so trust that.

Most of these classes need six to eight people to run. That is a coordination problem, not a cooking problem. MITRA is for exactly this — posting what you want to do and finding people nearby who want in. Get MITRA on Google Play · Download on the App Store.

Berlin cooking schools that are no longer there

Listicles about cooking classes in Berlin age badly, and several names still circulating no longer lead anywhere. Of five older domains checked on 25 August 2026:

  • Kochhaus — kochhaus.de is still registered and delegated to Cloudflare nameservers, but publishes no address record, so the hostname does not resolve. www.kochhaus.de returns nothing at all. Somebody is still paying for the name; there is no site behind it.
  • kochschule.de, which hosted a large Berlin course directory, renders one line: “Diese Domain wurde gesperrt!” — suspended. Every Berlin listing beneath it is dead.
  • Kochatelier Berlin-Adlershof — the site still loads and still says “Wir sind bald wieder da. Im Frühjahr 2020 geht es weiter!” It has said that for six years.
  • diekochschule.de and kochatelier-berlin.de — both resolve, but neither served a page over http or https on three separate attempts. Both point at domain-parking infrastructure operated by the same company. Parked, in other words, but not even showing a for-sale page. Treat them as gone.

The old Thai-Kochschule Berlin domain now redirects to an unrelated site; that Kantstraße operation trades today as Dao Thai, which is in the table above.

Which of these cooking classes in Berlin to pick

If you need English confirmed in writing: Goldhahn und Sampson. It is the only school here that will tell you before you pay, and at €105 you are partly paying for that certainty. It also has the widest range — 129 listed products, from Armenian to fermenting to a €50 cheese seminar.

If you want the most in the price: RunningPapaya in Wilmersdorf — two drinks, an apron, the ingredients, the equipment and a digital recipe collection, all named. You pay €125 to €145 for that clarity.

If it is the two of you and the budget is tight: the Koch- und Grillakademie in Biesdorf at €89, the cheapest seat here a pair can simply buy — and the AGB says drinks and recipes are in it. Kochwerk’s €99-per-couple format works out cheaper still at €51.48 a head all in, but the only date listed for it has already gone. Worth an email, not a plan.

If you are already six or more: Berliner Kochwerkstatt, comfortably. €65 a head with wine, recipes and an apron for a private three-course evening is the best value in this guide by a wide margin, and the group picks the theme.

If you want one specific cuisine done properly: Dao Thai on Kantstraße for Thai — about four hours, drinks and printed materials, €109 for four courses or €119 for five. Expect to email rather than click.

A class is also a good answer to a wet evening — worth filing next to the rest of the rainy day options in Berlin. And if the appeal is making something with your hands rather than the food specifically, pottery classes in Berlin run €80 to €95 for a comparable evening.

How we chose these

We counted cooking classes in Berlin only where a school operates a physical teaching kitchen in the city, is open now, and publishes a price for a single public class on its own website. That rules out private-chef services, restaurant pop-ups without a fixed schedule, and the aggregator platforms — Viator, GetYourGuide, konfetti and the rest — which resell the same classes at their own margins and were used here only to confirm a school exists.

Berliner Kochwerkstatt is included despite not selling single seats, because it is the cheapest per head in this guide and readers organising a group should know about it. Its row says so plainly rather than burying it.

Every figure was read from the visible text of the operator’s page, not from its source code, and nothing was carried over from a cached or archived copy. Where a school does not publish something — a duration, a language, a group size — this guide records that it does not, rather than filling the gap with a guess. Then two further independent checks went back to every site and re-verified all of it from scratch. Between them they found and corrected twenty-three errors in the first draft, including a school that has not opened yet. Prices move; check before you book.

The class is three hours. The rest of the evening is the point. MITRA helps you meet people nearby who want to do the same thing at the same time. Berlin first, with more EU cities on the roadmap. Get MITRA on Google Play · Download on the App Store.

How much does a cooking class cost in Berlin?

Between EUR 89 and EUR 145 per person if you are booking two seats yourself, across the seven schools trading in August 2026. Cheaper rates exist – EUR 65 a head at Berliner Kochwerkstatt – but that is a private-group price with a six-person minimum. Goldhahn und Sampson also runs baking classes from EUR 85 and a cheese seminar at EUR 50.

Are cooking classes in Berlin taught in English?

Some are, but only one school states it per class. Goldhahn und Sampson publishes the language on each class page and currently lists 32 in English against 96 in German. RunningPapaya mentions English only for company events, not public classes. The other schools in this guide publish nothing about teaching language, and an English website is not a promise of an English class. Email before booking.

What is the cheapest cooking class in Berlin?

Of the seven schools trading here, Berliner Kochwerkstatt in Schoeneberg at EUR 65 per person for three courses – but it only takes bookings of six or more as a closed private group. For two people simply buying two seats, the Koch- und Grillakademie in Biesdorf starts at EUR 89. Kochwerk runs a couples class at EUR 99 per pair, which is EUR 102.96 with its 4 per cent booking fee, but the only date listed for it has passed.

Are drinks included in a Berlin cooking class?

At all seven, yes, though one makes you hunt for it. Berliner Kochwerkstatt includes a welcome drink and two glasses of wine. Dao Thai includes drinks and printed materials. RunningPapaya includes two drinks and a loaned apron. Kochwerk and cookingberlin include drinks. The Koch- und Grillakademie says nothing on its course pages, but its terms confirm drinks and recipes are covered.

How long is a cooking class in Berlin?

Three to five hours. Dao Thai runs about four, Goldhahn und Sampson three and a half to four with a stated five-hour ceiling, cookingberlin 18:30 to about 21:30, and the Koch- und Grillakademie three to five depending on the course. Kochwerk does not publish a duration at all.

Can two people book a cooking class in Berlin together?

At six of the seven schools here, yes – you simply buy two tickets. Berliner Kochwerkstatt cannot take two people at all, as it runs closed groups of six or more. Kochwerk and RunningPapaya technically can, but both need eight participants for a class to run.

Do I need to book a Berlin cooking class in advance?

Yes, and further ahead than you might expect. Goldhahn und Sampson stops refunding two days before, and refunds default to a voucher rather than cash. Two schools, cookingberlin and Dao Thai, publish no fixed calendar at all, with Dao Thai releasing dates at most four weeks ahead, so both require an enquiry rather than a booking.

Is Kochhaus in Berlin still open?

No. As of 25 August 2026 kochhaus.de is still registered but publishes no address record, so the site does not load at all. Other names still appearing in search results are also dead ends: kochschule.de, which hosted a large Berlin course directory, now shows only a notice that the domain has been suspended, and the Kochatelier in Adlershof still says it will reopen in spring 2020.

Want to keep reading?

Several of the names still circulating for this search no longer serve a page at all, and one of the most polished sites belongs to a kitchen that has not opened. The seven above are trading, priced and reachable, and every figure came off their own booking pages and terms rather than a reseller’s. The harder part was never the booking form.
