Musicals in Berlin this winter start at €12 a seat: Barrie Kosky’s Anatevka (Fiddler on the Roof) at the Komische Oper, so €24 for two on Tuesday 9 February. We compared nine productions running from November to March.

The catch: none of the nine is billed as an English-language show, and only one marks English surtitles on its dates. The other trap is where you buy: the €12 seats are not what Eventim shows.

A musical is an easy first evening out with someone new, because the show does the talking: see Going with someone.

Prices are the official ones each theatre or organiser published on 23 October 2026. “Two seats” is our sum of the two cheapest tickets for the cheapest night. “Not stated” in the language column means the organiser’s page does not say.

Links marked * are affiliate links: if you book through them, MITRA earns a small commission. The price is the same for you. Eventim adds its own fees, so its prices sit above the official ones in the table. Every unmarked link in the table goes to the theatre or organiser.

One more musical at the venues we checked opens inside this window but is left out of the table because the venue publishes no prices: HELLO! AGAIN?, built on Howard Carpendale’s songs, from 23 March 2027 at the Admiralspalast (23 March on Eventim*). Also not in the table: children’s and family shows, hit-parade evenings that are not book musicals, and the Friedrichstadt-Palast revue. If a ballet is closer to what you want for December, our Nutcracker Berlin comparison covers every production, and the Friedrichstadt-Palast guide covers the big show without dialogue.

Two friends talk and laugh in red velvet seats during the interval of a musical

Where you buy can change the price as much as which show you pick

Anatevka is the clearest case. The Komische Oper’s own page prices it from €12 on Tuesday 9 February. Eventim’s Anatevka listing started at €52.55 on 23 October. The cheap seats are sold by the house, so for this one we would book on the Komische Oper’s site and use Eventim only if the house has sold out. Prices there also climb by day: Tuesday 9 February €12–€79; Tuesday 2 March, Wednesdays and Sundays €13–€96; Fridays and Saturdays €14–€110.

Students, trainees and volunteers under 30, and unemployed people of any age, get €8 off in categories C to E and €4 off in A and B at the Komische Oper, sold by phone or at the box office, not online. Holders of the Berlin-Ticket S pay €3 at the evening box office from 30 minutes before the show.

Stage Entertainment, which runs the Theater des Westens, quotes Wir sind am Leben “from €29.99”, while its seat-category chart starts at €53.99 (category 5). Stage does not publish a weekday price table, but its own shop sorts every performance into a price level, and for Wir sind am Leben it puts Saturdays in a higher price level than Tuesdays to Thursdays. E-tickets cost nothing extra; posted tickets cost €5.90. At the Admiralspalast, ATG’s own shop shows the Glöckner price split on its page: Tuesday to Thursday is €10 cheaper at the bottom than Friday to Sunday.

Going with someone

A musical suits two people who do not know each other well yet. You sit side by side for two and a half to three and a quarter hours, there is an interval with something to talk about, and the walk to the U-Bahn afterwards writes its own conversation. It also works for a small group: buy seats together in the same row rather than “best available” one by one, which can split you up.

The language question is easier with company. If one of you speaks German, Wir sind am Leben or Salon Rosie works with whispered help in the interval. If neither does, Linie 1 with English surtitles is the safe pick. For more evenings that work for two, see our Berlin events in December guide.

Holding two seats for Linie 1 or the 9 February Anatevka and nobody to take the second? Post the show, the date and where you will meet before curtain-up on MITRA. Anyone can ask to join, and you approve each person. One other person or a small group. Get MITRA on Google Play · Download on the App Store

Which one we would book

For a first musical in Berlin without German: Linie 1. It is the classic Berlin musical revue by Volker Ludwig and Birger Heymann: a young woman from the provinces rides the U1 through 1980s West Berlin. €35 a seat, the English surtitles are marked on its dates, and the GRIPS rates it 16+.

For the biggest night for the least money: Anatevka on Tuesday 9 February. Kosky’s staging from 2017 is back from 6 February 2027. You probably know half the songs already, which helps if your German is thin, but the show runs 3 hours 15 minutes with the interval.

For a Berlin story: Wir sind am Leben, the new musical by Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer, set in a squat in Berlin in 1990. About three hours, recommended from 12.

We would skip Das Phantom der Oper on 21 January unless you know what it is: the Tempodrom listing names the Sasson/Sautter production, not Andrew Lloyd Webber’s. At €131.80 for the cheapest two seats that is an expensive surprise.

For March: Disney’s Der Glöckner von Notre Dame plays the Admiralspalast from 3 to 20 March 2027 with a 17-piece live orchestra, in German, recommended from 10. Book a Tuesday to Thursday.

Who these shows are not for

If you need English all the way through, none of the nine is billed in English; Linie 1 with its English surtitles comes closest. Several are long: Anatevka and Linie 1 both run 3 hours 15 minutes with the interval, Salon Rosie about 2 hours 50. Die Bettwurst is a camp cult comedy after Rosa von Praunheim’s film and admits no one under 14. 1984 is billed as a dark musical, sung by the fourth-year musical students of the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).
